Telangana has secured approval for five additional urban infrastructure projects worth ₹3,892 crore under the Centre’s Urban Challenge Fund (UCF), with the National Apex Committee (NAC) clearing proposals including the ₹1,992-crore Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project (Phases II and III) of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and a ₹1,465-crore project to comprehensively upgrade the stormwater drainage system in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).
At its fourth meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday (November 3, 2026), the NAC also approved the ₹209-crore restoration and development of the historic Warangal Fort moat, a ₹169-crore Hanumakonda Central Business District (CBD) project, and a ₹57.5-crore integrated heritage, tourism and urban regeneration project for Alampur Temple Town, according to Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Secretary T.K. Sreedevi.
With these eight approvals, the NAC has sanctioned urban infrastructure projects worth a total of ₹9,573 crore for Telangana under the UCF in its four meetings so far, with the projects spanning water supply, sewerage, stormwater drainage, heritage conservation and urban regeneration initiatives aimed at accelerating urban development across the State.
The largest project cleared earlier has been the ₹4,674.6-crore Greater Warangal Comprehensive Underground Sewerage System (UGSS), which is expected to significantly improve sanitation infrastructure in the city. Other projects approved at the first NAC meeting include the ₹840-crore Karimnagar Urban Transformation Project and the ₹160-crore Khammam AI-CCC project under the Warangal Mega City Economic Region.
The NAC cleared projects are expected to leverage substantial private and institutional investment, with nearly ₹4,886 crore proposed through loans and public-private partnership (PPP) models. The Centre’s contribution is estimated at over ₹1,500 crore, while the State government and urban local bodies are expected to contribute about ₹2,393 crore, said Ms. Sreedevi.
The senior official, who is also the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA), said the projects cleared by Chief Minisrer A. Revanth Reddy are designed to improve urban resilience, strengthen water and sanitation infrastructure, conserve heritage assets and create sustainable growth centres.
The projects are proposed to be implemented through innovative financing mechanisms, including PPPs, Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) concessions and institutional loans, reducing the burden on public finances while accelerating project execution, she added.
