An agriculture team headed by the Director of the Directorate of Pulses Development, Bhopal, Mahesh Kumar, conducted an extensive field inspection across Yadgir district recently.
The high-level visit evaluated field implementations under the Union government’s Mission for Atma Nirbharta in Pulses (MAP) scheme.
The team inspected mechanised red gram sowing plots in the Arakera (K) village in Yadgir taluk, as well as Doranahalli and Halisagar in Shahapur taluk. Pulse minikit demonstrations were reviewed at Panchasheela Nagar and Tatalgera in Gurmitkal taluk.
Officials evaluated the configuration of several multi-crops, including red gram, sorghum, cotton, paddy, and sunflower, at Chepetla, Kamalnagar, M.T. Palli and Kandkur villages in Gurmitkal taluk.
Field demonstrations highlighted Integrated Pest Management — including biological pheromone traps and using sorghum as natural bird perches for pest control — alongside mechanical nipping to encourage branching and increase yields.
Dr. Kumar also evaluated seed production plots and Cluster Frontline Demonstration fields managed by ICAR-KVK, Yadgir, across station trials and farms in the villages of Rukmapur and Khanapur (SH) in Shorapur taluk.
Senior Scientist and Head at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kawadimatti Jaiprakash Narayan R.P., reported that ICAR-KVK successfully produced 506 quintals of high-yielding red gram seeds (varieties GRG-152, GRG-811, and TS-3R) using its revolving fund during 2025-26.
He formally requested a new seed hub project to leverage the district’s drought-resilient Krishna and Bhima river command channels.
The visit concluded with over 30 progressive farmers honouring the visiting officials. Participating growers received premium inputs, soil health toolkits, and advisory guidance on the Minimum Support Price framework.
Hampanna Y.L., Deputy Director of Agriculture, Suresh B., Assistant Director of Agriculture, ADAs from Shorapur and Shahapur, hobli agriculture officers, and key departmental staff were present.
