The review follows the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)’s withdrawal of charges against suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola after an assessment found there were no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.
The 16 accused, including Matlala’s two companies, face charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.
The charges relate to a R228 million South African Police Service (SAPS) wellness tender awarded to Medicare24 Tshwane District.
