Case against 3 KZN cops charged with murder postponed to Nov - EWN
The State is one step closer to trial in the case of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police officers accused of shooting and killing unarmed suspects.
Police officers Sfiso Maphumulo, Vusimuzi Phewa and Manelisi Rabi made a brief appearance in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court on Thursday.
They each face two counts of murder for a shooting that took place on Duffs Road in Durban, in July last year.
The three officers appeared in court wearing oversized hoodies and face-covering masks.
The matter was postponed to 26 November 2026 for the serving of indictments.
Four suspects were killed by police in the shooting; however, the officers currently face two counts of murder.
Additional murder charges for the two other suspects are expected to be added once the indictment is complete.
The officers were arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) after videos on social media showed the suspects unarmed and surrendering to the police.
