Cape Town moves to complete famous unfinished foreshore freeway after 50-year delay - EWN

The City of Cape Town said it aims to alleviate traffic congestion in and around the CBD by reconstructing the unfinished foreshore freeway bridges that have stood incomplete for decades.

Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said that the city is making progress behind the scenes on the long-awaited project and plans to publish initial proposals for public comment in September.

However the township development council has since questioned the city’s plans saying the money can be better spent on service delivery.

After almost fifty years plans are underway to reconstruct the two unfinished bridges in Cape Town’s CBD.

Hill-Lewis said that its plans will go out for public comment in two months time.

"The unfinished bridges that we all grew up with as Capetonians, we are planning to actually get them finished over the years ahead. In around September, we will release for public comment some initial designs."
