Borno Police arrest nine for stealing handsets, recover three tricycles - The Guardian Nigeria News
The Borno State Police command, has arrested nine suspected handset snatchers and the recovery of three stolen tricycles in Maiduguri Metropolitan (MMC) and Jere Councils of the state.2.
The command said three suspects on September 10, 2026, allegedly used a tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, to snatch mobile phones from unsuspecting members of the public in Maiduguri, the state capital.
In a released statement over the weekend in Maiduguri, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said: βThe police operatives breakthrough followed sustained investigation and intelligence gathering by detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).β
According to him, the operations also led to the recovery of seven additional mobile phones and two more tricycles believed to have been used for the criminal activities.
βThrough sustained investigation and detailed intelligence gathering by detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, an additional nine suspects have been arrested, bringing the number of suspects arrested in connection with the investigation to twelve,β the ASP added.
Daso further revealed that upon completion of investigation, the suspects will be charged to court in accordance with due process.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended personnel of the command and members of the public whose credible information contributed to the breakthrough of arrests and recoveries of the stolen items.
He reiterated the commandβs commitment to combating street-level criminality and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
The Command urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue to support the police with timely information on suspicious activities.
