BoP Reiterates Gaza Objectives Ahead of UN General Assembly

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Board of Peace (BoP) on Tuesday reiterated its key objectives for Gaza and called for international support to advance a roadmap for ending the conflict, as world leaders prepare to gather in New York for the UN General Assembly.

In a statement on X, the board said its shared objectives include the demilitarization and deradicalization of Gaza, sustained humanitarian aid and reconstruction, effective Palestinian civilian and security administration, and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis.

The board, chaired by US President Donald Trump, said the plan had paved the way for the release and return of all Israeli hostages, the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, and subsequent steps including UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and the establishment of the Board of Peace.

It said an agreement reached with Hamas on July 30 provides a roadmap for the next stages of the ceasefire, including demilitarization, Israeli withdrawal, Palestinian administration and reconstruction of Gaza.

The BoP called on all parties to uphold their commitments and avoid actions that could undermine the ceasefire.

It also urged international partners to translate their political support into practical commitments to help implement the roadmap.

“UNGA provides an opportunity to consolidate the international community behind one agreed framework,” the statement said, emphasizing diplomacy as a means toward lasting peace and security in Gaza.

Since October 8, 2023, Israel has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000 others in its war on Gaza, while around 90 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
