Tasmanian Police are investigating after a body was found in a rivulet in Hobart's north.

In a statement, police said a person walking in the area contacted police around 10.30 this morning, to report a deceased person in the water at Humphreys Rivulet, near Grove Road, Glenorchy.

Police said "detectives and specialist resources" were at the scene on Wednesday afternoon, and asked that people avoid the area.

"Investigations into the death are ongoing and will include an autopsy," police said.
