BJP MP flags Bihar police lapses after harassment cases in Jamui, Banka, Samastipur

A series of incidents involving the harassment and assault of women and girls in Bihar's Jamui, Samastipur and Banka has sparked widespread outrage, with videos of some of the incidents circulating on social media and raising questions over public safety and policing in the state.

Patel, a BJP Rajya Sabha member from Bihar, was speaking to IANS about the incidents reported from Jamui, Banka, Samastipur and other parts of the state.

“Whether it is the incident in Jamui, Banka, Samastipur or anywhere else in Bihar, it is extremely unfortunate, and we must honestly acknowledge that the Bihar Police is not doing its job properly...” Patel said.

His remarks come amid scrutiny of law and order in Bihar following a series of incidents in which women and minors were harassed or assaulted.JAMUI INCIDENT INVOLVING CLASS 10 STUDENTS

In the recent Jamui incident, a minor boy and a girl, both Class 10 students at a local school, were molested and harassed by a group of men while returning from their coaching class on Saturday evening.

The two students had gone to the popular Madwa Pahad, a hill destination in Jamui city. While they were returning on a scooter, a group of men allegedly stopped them, abused them and forced them to get off the vehicle.

The students tried to escape, but the group allegedly chased them and assaulted them. A member of the group recorded the incident, and the video was later circulated on social media, triggering outrage.

Three minors have been arrested in connection with the alleged harassment and molestation of the two Class 10 students.SAMASTIPUR GIRL HARASSED

In another incident in Bihar's Samastipur, a minor girl was abused, harassed and molested by a group of men after they spotted her with a boy on a local embankment.

The girl and the boy had gone there on a bike and were talking when the group allegedly confronted them. According to sources, the men first abused and assaulted the boy, forcing him to flee, before turning their attention to the girl.

A video recorded at the spot and later circulated on social media purportedly shows the men grabbing the girl, pulling her by her hands and hair, and making lewd comments as she resisted.BANKA VIDEO SPARKS OUTRAGE

In Bihar's Banka district, a case has been registered against six unidentified young men after a video circulated on social media showing a woman being harassed and assaulted.

The incident took place at Mandar Hill, a popular tourist and pilgrimage site, according to police.

The footage circulating on social media bears a timestamp indicating that it was recorded on September 3.

The incidents in Jamui, Samastipur and Banka, along with the circulation of videos showing the alleged harassment, have brought renewed attention to public safety and policing in Bihar.

It is against this backdrop that BJP MP Shambhu Sharan Patel publicly acknowledged concerns over the functioning of the Bihar Police and said the shortcomings needed to be honestly recognised.- EndsWith IANS inputs
