BJP for transferring POCSO case to CBI

BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy on Wednesday said that the Tamil Nadu government must transfer the probe into the sexual assault case involving Gem Granites Veeramani, to the CBI.

In a social media post, he said one of the officers in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the sexual assault case involving Veeramani, Deputy Commissioner Geethanjali has requested to recuse herself from the team. The officer requested to be exempted from the panel, citing her prior involvement in the investigation of this case - conducted under the supervision of the then Chennai Police Commissioner Arun - during her tenure with the Central Crime Branch.

“Given the possibility that various high-ranking police officials may have played a role in diluting or prematurely concluding this case, it would be proper and fair for the investigation to be handed over to the CBI. The Tamil Nadu government must immediately request a CBI inquiry into this matter," Mr. Thirupathy said.
