Bengals’ Dohnte Meyers made case more snaps - Bengals Wire

The Dohnte Meyers breakout for the Cincinnati Bengals just keeps happening. 

Meyers bullied his way onto the final roster in Cincinnati after a big summer. Then, he made the most of his opportunity during the season-opening win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

At face value, Meyers had one rush and one catch, totaling 28 yards.

But digging deeper, Meyers had two first downs and two forced missed tackles on just those two touches. Timing matters, too: The Bucs had clawed within six when Joe Burrow targeted him late in the game for his 18-yard catch-and-run. 

Again, it was Meyers with about three minutes left as the Bengals protected a 33-27 lead. Just as he’d hoped. 

"That's something I wanted to do when I first got here," Meyers told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. "Being a new guy, instill that I'm hard working with you guys and I'm working for the same goal. For that to be reciprocated and to gain that trust for the opportunities is pivotal."

Meyers’ fast rise this summer opened up the conversation about whether he should be getting more work than Andrei Iosivas in the base offense. It’s an idea that will only keep spreading if this keeps up. 

Even so, Meyers also has a big responsibility on special teams as a returner. But the ability to help in that base offense makes him more dynamic than past specialists like Charlie Jones already. 

And the trust from Burrow in the fourth quarter with the game on the line? And his yards-after-catch ability? It’s going to keep Meyers around and involved for a long time.
