A youth drowned while immersing a Ganesh idol in a tank at Macche village in Belagavi taluk on Friday (September 25, 2026) evening.

The youth identified as Vishwesh Naik (20), a B.Sc student, had entered the tank along with his friends for the immersion. However, while others returned to the bank after immersion, Vishwesh did not.

On receiving information, members of Social Media Rescue Team, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Belagavi Rural police and the Fire and Emergency Services personnel, launched a search operation.

After nearly 30 minutes of search, the team recovered the youth’s body from the tank.

Amid the Ganesha immersion festivities, the tragic incident cast a pall of gloom over Macche village.
