Bears bring back familiar face to roster after special teams mishaps - Bears Wire

The Chicago Bears are bringing back a familiar face to the roster after some special teams mishaps through these first two games.

According to Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, the Bears have signed long snapper Scott Daly off the New Orleans Saints' practice squad. Daly spent two seasons with Chicago, from 2024-2025, but the team let him walk in free agency this offseason. He landed with New Orleans, where he's been on the practice squad.

No word on what this means for undrafted rookie Beau Gardner, who won the starting long snapper job over Luke Elkin this summer, but the expectation is that he'll be waived and perhaps re-signed to the practice squad as he just isn't ready to start right now.

Gardner has had a rough first two games as a rookie, which even prompted head coach Ben Johnson to send a dig his way when discussing the blocked field goal in the fourth quarter on what should've been a chip-shot game-tying field goal.

"The operation was not clean. The snap was not good,” Johnson said. "The first field goal was a warning shot as far as I’m concerned."

Daly brings more reliability and experience at long snapper, especially for a unit that's had some issues early this season.
