BDCC bank waiting for govt. sanction for recruitment, says MLA

The Belagavi district central cooperative bank is waiting for the State government approval to fill vacancies of officers and staff, Balachandra Jarkiholi, MLA, said in Belagavi on Monday.
He hoped that the government would approve of the bank’s recruitment proposals in the next few months and the recruitment drive would be completed before December. He was speaking at the 105th annual general body meeting of the bank.
“We had begun the process for filling 134 vacant posts earlier, but the government cancelled it due to certain irregularities in the reservation roaster and other technicalities. Over 21,000 candidates had applied for these posts. We will rectify any error regarding reservation norms from the previous process and seek fresh applications,” he said.
The bank has now sent a new proposal to recruit 134 staff members, comprising 110 clerks, 23 peons, and one security guard. Applications will be invited again once the government approval is received.
“Decisions regarding the sanctioning of loans to sugar factories must be taken after carefully examining all pros and cons. There are approximately 50 sugar factories across the Belagavi, Vijayapura, and Bagalkot districts. The interests of sugarcane growers can be safeguarded only if these factories remain operational. The closure of even a single factory would create difficulties for farmers,” he said.
Annasaheb Jolle, bank chairman and former MP, stated that the bank, with a history spanning over 106 years, is currently celebrating its centenary. Agricultural loans provided to farmers at zero interest have increased from ₹3,300 crore to ₹3,727 crore. Deposits rose by ₹616 crore in six months, reaching ₹6,703 crore. He added that working capital has increased to ₹9,776 crore, and the loan repayment rate stands at 99.78%. The loan limit for sugarcane cultivation has been raised from ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 per acre, providing farmers in Belagavi district with access to an additional ₹700 crore in credit. Farmers are also being supported through loans for tractors, dairy farming, and pipeline installations. He stated that the coverage of the Yashasvini health insurance scheme has been extended to 2.82 lakh members.
He mentioned that digital banking services are being expanded, with micro-ATM facilities provided at five Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies. Measures have been taken to control non-performing assets (NPAs), and action under the SARFAESI Act is proceeding in cases of long-standing arrears.
