Bangladesh rocked by protests over higher pay - NHKニュース
Unrest is spreading in Bangladesh, the world's second-largest garment exporter, as workers are protesting for higher pay.
The demonstrations started on Saturday. The government has failed to bring them under control, despite setting up a body to review pay in the sector.
Reuters reports that clashes with police have occurred across industrial belts around the capital, Dhaka, injuring dozens. Many factories were forced to suspend operations.
Protesters are demanding a higher minimum monthly wage, citing the rising cost of living.
The disturbance comes at a crucial time for manufacturers, right in the middle of peak production season for next year's spring and summer global orders.
The industry employs about 4 million people and accounts for over 80 percent of the country's export revenue.
