Bandits abduct five in Zamfara, kidnap couple in Kwara - The Guardian Nigeria News

In a fresh wave of terror attacks, gunmen suspected to be bandits have invaded Tsafe Town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Council Area of Zamfara State, and kidnapped five people, including women.

A resident of the town explained on condition of anonymity that the gunmen invaded the town around 1:30 a.m., started shooting sporadically and attacked two houses, including the residence of one Lamidi, identified as the father of the former Chief of Staff to Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar, where they reportedly abducted two women.

He added that the gunmen later moved to the house of Nura Sani, Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to Governor Dauda Lawal, but did not succeed.

However, another source noted that, unlike the other parts of Tsafe Town, the two areas attacked had no local vigilantes or security checkpoints.

Confirming the attack on the telephone, the Chairman of Tsafe Local Council Area, Garba Fanchas, said that five residents were kidnapped in the midnight operation. However, he commended the efforts of security agencies and local vigilantes who confronted the terrorists, who he said had blocked all entrances into the town, before the gunmen penetrated the town through another route.

In a similar development, some bandits reportedly abducted a newlywed couple, Abiodun David and his wife, Funmilayo Bamidele, at the border areas of Eruku-Iyemero Road, between Kogi and Kwara states yesterday.

The couple, said to be returning from their engagement ceremony in Eruku, were intercepted by armed bandits on the road as they were on their way to drop off the best man and other members of the group in Iyamoye, Kogi State.

Confirming the incident, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed that the vehicle the party was travelling in was parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.

Consequently, he said that soldiers and police operatives in the three affected states were jointly combing the bushes for the couple and their abductors.
