Asian Games, Sept 21 schedule: Women's cricket leads bid for first gold

India's women's cricket team takes centre stage on September 22 with a gold medal on the line against Sri Lanka. The defending champions have reached the final after a commanding campaign, and now stand one win away from retaining their Asian Games title. For India, it is also the clearest opportunity yet to open its gold-medal account in Aichi-Nagoya.

Cricket, however, is only one part of a packed day for the Indian contingent. Shooting brings another major medal opportunity, with Elavenil Valarivan and Parth Rakesh Mane in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. Wushu's Langlentombi Devi Hanjabam will also compete in the women's Nanquan and Nandao finals, while India's badminton teams face Japan in the quarter-finals.

There is further action across fencing, karate, swimming, boxing, kabaddi and hockey, with several Indian athletes looking to advance into medal rounds. The men's hockey team faces Sri Lanka, while the kabaddi side takes on South Korea. But the biggest prize of the day remains at the cricket ground. India will be chasing a second successive Asian Games gold in women's cricket, with a victory potentially delivering the country's first gold medal of these Games.
