Asian Games: Indonesia Storms Into Women's Doubles Padel Final - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Fitriani Sabatini/Fadona Kusumawati advanced to the women's doubles padel final at the 2026 Asian Games after beating the Philippines' Danna Abad/Joshea Malazarte 6-0, 6-0 at Nagoya City Higashi Sport Center, Japan, on Friday.
Fitriani/Fadona dominated from the start, giving their opponents little opportunity to develop their game. The Indonesian pair took 17 minutes to win the first set before securing the second in 25 minutes.
βAlhamdulillah, we really enjoyed our game today. We weren't as tense as in our previous matches. From the first set to the second, we played more organized and cleaner, which made it difficult for our opponents,β Fadona said after the match.
In the first set, Fitriani/Fadona won 12 of 16 points on their serve and 12 of 14 points when receiving. They also committed no double faults throughout the match.
The Indonesian pair maintained their consistency in the second set, winning 12 of 18 points on serve and 17 of 24 points when receiving.
Fitriani echoed her partner's comments, saying the pressure of the match had instead motivated them to bring out their best performance.
Looking ahead to the final, Fadona said she and Fitriani would prepare fully regardless of who they face.
βWhoever our opponent is, we have to give it our all. We have to go for the gold for Indonesia,β Fadona said.
She also hoped fellow Indonesians Putria Novela/Beatrice Gumulya could join them in the final, setting up an all-Indonesian showdown. Beatrice/Putria will face Japan's Saki Tsukamoto/Kae Tokumoto in the women's doubles semifinal.
βAn all-Indonesian final would be even better. God willing, hopefully, and please pray for us, so that the gold is already in Indonesia's hands,β Fadona said.
With their straight-set victory, Fitriani/Fadona are now one match away from winning the women's doubles padel gold medal at the Asian Games.
