Anwarul Kabir appointed new inspector general of prisons

The government has appointed Brig Gen Anwarul Kabir as the new inspector general of prisons at the Department of Prisons.

The public administration ministry issued a notification confirming the appointment on Sunday.

The post had been vacant for nearly a month following the return of Brig Gen Syed Md Motaher Hossain to his parent service -- the Bangladesh Army.

The same notification also directed Col Mohammad Mostafa Kamal -- who had been serving as the acting inspector general of prisons following Motaher's departure -- to return to his original service.

According to the order, Col Saidul Islam will replace Col Mostafa.

The government had removed Brig Gen Motaher from the top prison position in early August.
