Andhra Pradesh Cabinet clears four new Police Commissionerates

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday approved the establishment of four new Police Commissionerates, several power-sector proposals and revised administrative sanctions totalling ₹463.55 crore for works under the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project, I&PR Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the Minister said the new police commissionerates would be headquartered in Rajamahendravaram, Guntur, Tirupati and Kurnool.

The Rajamahendravaram Commissionerate would have three territorial zones and would be headed by a Police Commissioner of IGP/DIG rank with Executive Magistrate powers. The Guntur Commissionerate would have four zones — Guntur, Guntur Rural, Amaravati Capital Region and Tenali. The Tirupati Commissionerate would have four zones — Tirumala, Tirupati, Srikalahasti and Sri City. The Kurnool Commissionerate would have two territorial zones and five sub-divisions — Kurnool Urban, Kurnool Rural, Adoni, Emmiganur and Pattikonda.

The Cabinet also approved a supernumerary post of Additional Director (Category-II) in the Prosecution Department, redesignation of existing posts and the draft Andhra Pradesh State Prosecution Service Rules, 2026.

It also approved formulation of a Social Media Influencers (SMI) Policy to identify, verify and empanel credible influencers for disseminating information on government welfare schemes, infrastructure development and other government programmes, he said.

In the energy sector, the Cabinet ratified government guarantees of ₹1,000 crore, ₹500 crore and ₹2,000 crore for loans to the Andhra Pradesh Power Finance Corporation Ltd. It also approved a ₹250-crore medium-term loan by AP-Genco to APPDCL for uninterrupted coal supplies, he said.

Mr. Parthasarathy said the Cabinet  approved cancellation of the 2,000-MW pumped hydro storage project allotted to Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd. at Kommuru in Annamayya district. It also cleared a compressed biogas plant, a wind-solar hybrid project and two solar power projects in different districts.

The Cabinet further approved procurement of pumped storage and energy storage capacity from SECI and eligible pumped-hydro projects.

On irrigation, it approved revised sanctions of ₹125.65 crore for Kuppam Branch Canal lining works and ₹337.90 crore for HNSS Phase-II main canal lining works in Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts. It also approved 12 super-passage works under Package-6 of the PIPLMC project, Mr. Parthasarathy said.
