Aiyedatiwa commends security agencies for elimination of ISWAP leader
The Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday, expressed the commitment of his administration to protecting the lives and property of the people of the state, as he appreciated security agencies for killing a senior leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province, identified as Abdussamad Ohida, in the Owo forest, Ondo State. PUNCH Online reports that the intelligence-led operation, which was carried out over the weekend, involved a combined team of the Department of State Services, troops of the Nigerian Army and operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as the Amotekun Corps. βThe eliminated ISWAP leader previously served as deputy to ISWAP Central Nigeria leader Abu Ikrimah, also known as Abu Uwais. Ikrimah was arrested by the DSS in 2023,β the sources said. Security sources said Ohida, aka Anwar, who was on the verge of planning massive terrorist attacks in some southern states, was killed alongside many members of the terrorist organisation by the security forces who led a surprise attack on their forest hideout. The government, in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, commended the gallantry, cooperation and intelligence-led operations of the various security agencies following Ohidaβs elimination. The statement read, β The governor said the successful operation underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing and proactive security measures in confronting emerging security threats. βHe (the governor) reaffirmed his administrationβs unwavering commitment to ensuring that Ondo State remains safe and secure for residents, visitors and businesses.β The statement urged the security agencies to sustain the momentum and remain vigilant, assuring them of the continued support of the state government in the collective effort to protect the people.
