Adani Group unveils Rs 1 lakh crore Bengal plan; CM lays 2,000-bed hospital foundation

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir at Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub in New Town, Kolkata, with the project entailing an investment of more than Rs 4,000 crore.

The project, to be executed by the Adani Foundation, will be spread across 51.75 acres and is envisioned as a world-class academic medical centre and comprehensive healthcare ecosystem for eastern India and beyond.

According to the Adani Group, the facility will cater to more than 200,000 inpatients and over 2 million outpatients annually and generate around 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem.

The multi-speciality hospital will include step-down and transitional care facilities, along with a Meditel and Vishram Gruh to provide accommodation for relatives of patients receiving treatment at the hospital.

“The final vision is not just a hospital campus, it will be a fully integrated healthcare city. Nowhere in India is there a hospital of this high standard. The hospital will give a big boost to medical tourism. This is historic, meaningful and an auspicious day for us. Viksit Bharat 2047 can happen only if Bengal develops,” Suvendu Adhikari said.1,000 BEDS FOR ECONOMICALLY WEAKER SECTIONS

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said the Adani Arogya Mandir would be a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution with 2,000 beds.

Of these, 1,000 beds will cater to economically weaker sections eligible under state and central health insurance schemes, he said.

In its first phase, the hospital will focus on cancer care and provide advanced tertiary and highly specialised healthcare services.

The campus will also have a medical college with an annual intake of 150 undergraduate students, more than 100 postgraduate students and over 40 super-specialists. It will include a College of Nursing and an institution for allied healthcare and paramedical education.

Residential facilities for healthcare professionals and their families are also planned as part of the campus ecosystem.FOCUS ON MEDICAL RESEARCH

The Adani Arogya Mandir will develop a research ecosystem covering genomics, precision medicine, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence, clinical trials, molecular sciences and other applied biomedical sciences.

The institution will work with international partners on clinical pathways, technologies and intellectual property, with a focus on translating scientific discoveries into improved diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

The Adani Foundation has engaged Mayo Clinic Global Consulting in the United States and Singapore's SingHealth for expertise in clinical care, academic medicine, digital health, quality, workforce development and innovation.

The project is also expected to provide a platform for developing Centres of Excellence across specialities and super-specialities in its second phase.ADANI ANNOUNCES RS 1 LAKH CRORE INVESTMENT ROADMAP

At the event, Gautam Adani announced an investment roadmap of more than Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035.

The planned investments will span ports, logistics, renewable energy, power generation, power transmission and distribution, roads and bridges, green cement and hyperscale data centres.

Drawing a parallel with Mundra in Gujarat, which he described as the Group's foundation for megaprojects, Adani referred to West Bengal as the Group's “karmabhoomi in the East.”

The Adani Group also announced support for the revitalisation of Kumartuli Ghat.

It signed two MoUs with the West Bengal government for restoration of the historic Writers' Building and for promoting Kolkata's Durga Puja through Adani Pujo Preview.

The latter initiative will support puja organisers, artists, artisans, service providers and the wider ecosystem associated with Bengal's Durga Pujas.- Ends
