AAU Management Cancels Departmental Final Exams for Engaging in Sign Out - THISDAYLIVE

Making real its threat to deal with graduating students who engage in wild celebration and sign out ceremony within the campus, the management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has cancelled the MCB 414 final examination written by students of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences.

 The students allegedly violated the university’s directive banning wild jubilation following their final examinations.

The management had threatened serious action against final year students who engage in sign out ceremony.

The university warned that it would cancel the examinations of any student(s) who fails to comply with the directive.

Mrs. Oluwayomi O. Agbebaku, the Registrar of the institution disclosed this in a statement to all Deans/Head of Departments (HoDs) and students.

In the statement titled, “Prohibition of wild jubilation as second semester examinations for 2025/2026 academic session ends”, and dated September 16, 2026, Agbebaku listed what amounted to wild jubilations to include vehicle, bike or bicycle parade, pouring of water, sand, drinks, consumption of alcohol, shouting, hooting, dancing, and all other unhealthy activities that may lead to illegal behaviour and criminal activities.

Others include the use of the Administrative Building vicinity for motorcade.

The statement read in part, “This is to inform members of the university community, graduating students in particular, and the student body in general that the extant Senate policy against wild jubilation/celebrations within and outside the university campus during or after examinations is still in force.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the University Management has further placed a total ban on any form of wild jubilation/celebration.

“Anybody caught embarking on the above unnecessary and unwholesome practice within and outside the university premises would be sanctioned according to the enabling laws of the university, and that may include the cancellation of such examination(s)”, the university said.

It however enjoined all students to look forward to the celebration of their graduation during the next university convocation ceremony.

The statement also reminded all Deans and Heads of Department of the extant laws on prohibition of wild jubilation by graduating students, and are therefore requested them to advise their students on the implication of non-compliance with the university policy.

Meanwhile, the university management announced the cancellation of Department of Microbiology examination in a press release signed by its Registrar.

The affected students had taken the MCB 414 (Anti-Microbial Agents and Chemotherapy) examination on Friday, September 18, 2026, after which the university said they engaged in wild jubilation despite an earlier warning against the practice.

According to the statement, the students were reminded of the prohibition before the examination but went ahead to flout the directive after completing the paper.

“Accordingly, the University Management has decided that the examination be cancelled,” the statement said.
