8th Pay Commission heads to Mumbai: Key dates, agenda and what it means

For Central Government employees and pensioners, the 8th Pay Commission's consultations are an important part of the process that will eventually shape its recommendations on pay and other benefits. The Commission is scheduled to visit Mumbai on October 22 and 23, 2026, to meet organisations, institutions, associations and unions representing Central Government employees.

Stakeholders who want to meet the Commission in Mumbai have been asked to submit their appointment requests by October 10, 2026, along with the Unique Memo ID generated after submitting their memorandum.

The Mumbai visit follows the Commission's scheduled visit to Bengaluru on October 7 and 8, 2026.

For the Bengaluru interactions, stakeholders were required to submit their appointment requests by September 18, along with their Unique Memo ID.

The Commission's consultations are aimed at understanding issues concerning pay structures, allowances, pensions and other service-related matters.

The feedback received from employee organisations and other stakeholders will form part of the consultation process as the Commission works on its recommendations.

The 8th Pay Commission is a temporary body set up by the central government to review the pay, allowances, pensions and other service conditions of Central Government employees and pensioners.

The three-member 8th Pay Commission is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. Prof Pulak Ghosh and Pankaj Jain are the other two members of the Commission.

The government constituted the Eighth Pay Commission on November 3, 2025, giving it an 18-month mandate to submit its final report. By October 3, the Commission will have completed 11 months of its allotted timeframe.WHY EMPLOYEES AND PENSIONERS ARE WATCHING CLOSELY
