The San Francisco 49ers may have defeated the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Week 1, but they also lost some key offensive players to siginificant injuries.

In addition to wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling suffering an ankle injury that will cost him around 10 weeks, tight end Jake Tonges also suffered a torn MCL that landed him on injured reserve and will keep him out for the rest of the year, according to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Tonges, 27, proved to be a solid backup at tight end last year while filling in for George Kittle, as he caught 34 passes for 293 yards and five touchdowns in the regular season and six receptions for 73 yards in the playoffs.

San Francisco gave him a two-year, $8 million deal this offseason with $3.5 million guaranteed.

Without Tonges, the 49ers must rely on George Kittle, Luke Farrell and Brayden Willis on the 53-man roster. They also have Khalil Dinkins and the recently-signed Jack Stoll on the practice squad.
