49ers schedule gets shakeup after injury to Giants starting QB - Niners Wire

The San Francisco 49ers' 2026 schedule may have gotten a bit of a tweak Tuesday when it was reported New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart sustained a significant knee injury in his team's Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Dart is out "an extended period of time, possibly the season" according to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo. The 49ers face the Giants at MetLife Stadium in Week 13 where it looks like they'll face backup quarterback Jameis Winston.

Winston entered the Giants' Week 2 game and struggled. He completed only 11-of-27 throws for 111 yards and one interception. Winston is 3-1 against the 49ers in four career starts, completing 66.7 percent of 114 passes for 838 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions.

For San Francisco this represents a major downgrade from the QB they faced last season at MetLife Stadium. Dart completed 24-of-33 throws for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 56 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' 34-24 win.

Dart's injury is particularly rough because the young QB is off to a strong start in his second season. New York beat the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 where Dart completed 26-of-34 throws for 250 yards and three touchdowns. He was 3-of-5 for 20 yards when he got hurt against LA.

The 49ers' game in New York is wedged between two big late-season divisional matchups. San Francisco hosts the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12, and then hosts the Rams in Week 14. If Winston isn't starting, the only other QB on the Giants roster as of Week 2 is practice squad signal caller Jake Haener.
