2027: Kano CP warns police against partisanship - Punch Newspapers

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has directed operational commanders to remain neutral, professional and apolitical in the build-up to the 2027 general elections. Bakori gave the directive on Monday during a strategic lecture on election security management organised for Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Tactical and Operational Units at the Police Officers’ Mess, Bompai, Kano. The lecture was aimed at preparing senior officers for election security duties as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 polls. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Monday. Any officer found engaging in partisan politics or compromising the integrity of the electoral process will face strict disciplinary action,” Bakori said. The commissioner also charged the commanders to respect human rights and the rule of law while discharging their responsibilities during the electioneering period. He urged them to strengthen community partnerships and intelligence-led policing, saying public trust was essential to effective policing and election security. We must remain professional, respect human rights and the rule of law, and work selflessly to earn the confidence of the people,” he said. Bakori also directed the commanders to sustain measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process across the state. The command said the Nigeria Police Force would provide security before, during and after the 2027 elections in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. It urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act. The police warned that acts capable of disrupting public peace would not be tolerated, while urging residents to support security agencies with credible information. The development comes after the Kano Police Command recently coordinated security arrangements for the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency by-election, where the command reported peaceful conduct and urged political actors to comply with electoral guidelines.
